HISTORIC EMBLEMATIC HOUSE FROM THE 18TH CENTURY
WHERE TRADITION LEAVES ITS MARK
The Bello-Feo House

The Bello-Feo house is in the south of Tenerife, on chasnera lands, in one of the best-preserved inland villages from a patrimonial point of view: San Miguel de Abona.

Its location is in the historic centre of San Miguel, in the old Calle Real. Today called Calle de la Iglesia, on the corner with Juan Bethencourt Alfonso Street – name given in honour of one of the most important personalities of the Canary Islands from the 19th to the 20th century, tied to the house by kinship relations with the owners of the property. This location allows the visitor or tourist to enjoy cultural, restoration and leisure services in its vicinity.

The Bello-Feo house in San Miguel de Abona has its origins in the transition from the 18th to the 19th century, being in this last century when most of the work was done. Currently restored with care and taste, it is an excellent example of stately architecture in a rural area, as was the South of Tenerife in past centuries, when agriculture was the main economic engine.

Its more than 400 m² accommodate multiple rooms, spacious and bright, a sign of the importance of the families that lived there. From an architectural point of view, it is an excellent example of the Canarian construction practices, presenting samples of the American architectural influences as its former owners are linked to the processes of emigration to America (Puerto Rico, Cuba…).

The beauty of the architectural forms, the volumes of its rooms take the visitor to times of the past, where furniture, materials and accessories are essential to approach what was the history of the house and of the South of Tenerife in general.

The Bello-Feo house has undergone a process of dynamic maintenance over time, adapting to the needs of the families that inhabited it, to the comforts and materials that modern times were imposing, without losing the essence of the old. This way we can admire traditional elements in Canarian architecture, the case of the traditional chasnera stone, the Arab tile or the use of teak wood -openings, roofs and floors-, with materials incorporated to architecture in the 20th century, and that connect with the modernist currents ongoing in the rest of the country.

The geographical situation of the Bello-Feo house is strategic, from the peace of an inland town, you arrive in 20 minutes to the hustle and bustle of the beach and coast area (Golf del Sur, El Médano, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas…). It has direct access to the area of the peak, and specifically the Las Cañadas de El Teide National Park, recognised as Universal Heritage by UNESCO.

Tradition, history, culture, urban and natural landscape, are elements that the Bello-Feo house in San Miguel de Abona combines, values that guarantee your enjoyment.

At the Bello-Feo house the visitor will find comfort, tranquillity, calm and relaxation (gardens, solarium, swimming pool…), factors that will provide an unforgettable stay and experience.

The Bello-Feo house has soul, where you can breathe the course of the past, allowing the visitor to recall the life of the characters who lived in the house, both in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The landscape values of the Bello-Feo house are of great interest. Its enclave allows you to contemplate the most stately communication route from the town of San Miguel, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. From the roofs of the house a spectacular aerial view of the town is contemplated, being able to admire the traditional system of roofs used in Canarian architecture: gabled and hipped roofs.

Of great contrast are the perspectives offered from the point of view of the cultural landscape, the north with its mountainous area, while to the south you can see the gentle slope that leads to the sea, where the beaches of El Médano, La Tejita, Los Abrigos, El Guincho, share the limelight with the spectacular Montaña Roja.

The contemplation of this space shows how the Canarian peasantry dominated the territory over the centuries, sometimes forming steps to contain the runoff and prevent loss of fertile soil (terracing structures), others digging up dirt to extract the precious jable, pumice mantle that when extended in cultivated fields managed to preserve humidity. Or conducting surveys, laying water pipes, building ponds and dams that retain rainwater or store those that emerge in springs and galleries.
